FASTI, COMMITTENZE, COLLEZIONI TRA ROMA E L’UMBRIA

ABSTRACT

The result of a decade of study and archival research, Massimo Moretti’s monograph scrupulously reconstructs the ascent and decline of a noble Umbrian family, the Petrignani. Based in Amelia, the Petrignani reached their apex with Monsignor Fantino, best known for having hosted for some time the young Caravaggio. The book shows, both through textual and visual examples, the emerging interest for arts of the family, which intertwined contacts with more and less known personalities of the arts and politics of the time. The novelties and intuitions here presented, relying on a solid scholarly methodology, will offer the basis for further research on these and related topics.
