TRE GENERAZIONI NELLA PITTURA DEL SETTECENTO TOSCANO

Emanuele Pellegrini

ABSTRACT

In the second half of eighteenth century some Florentine men of letters (Bottari, Pelli Bencivenni) pointed out the decadence of the arts in Italy at the time they were writing, and in particular in Tuscany. Such an assessment implies one golden period at the very beginning of the century and a renaissance period, after the crisis, at the end of it. The article seeks to investigate the reasons of this evaluation, trying to verify on documentary basis the main trends in Tuscan painting during eighteenth century. In particular the article explores the role of the Florentine Accademia del Disegno and its relationship with others academic contexts, especially Rome and Bologna.
