PITTURE, STATUE E STUCCHI NELLA VILLA DI POGGIO TORSELLI

Sandro Bellesi

ABSTRACT

In the surroundings of Florence, among the hills of San Casciano, lies the Villa Poggio Torselli, which in 1892 Guido Carocci defined «delle più vaste ed eleganti». The article aims to explain the history of the villa and its architectonic and artistic renewal during eighteenth century. In particular the article shows, for the very first time, the works of art still preserved outside and inside the villa, in particular the inner frescoes decoration (due to Matteo Bonechi, Rinaldo Botti and some others yet not identified masters) and the sculptures (on plaster and terracotta), mainly due to Lorenzo Merlini.
